Year 12: Bank of England Watchers’ Conference

Year 12 students, Fatima, Luca, Tudor and Joao all have an interest in how crucial economic decisions are made and how these decisions impact our lives. So, what could be a better way of finding out more about what influences monetary policy than by attending the Bank of England’s Watchers’ Conference 2025.

Fatima was especially impressed by Keynote Speaker, Clare Lombardelli’s explanation of how the Bank navigates uncertainty, including current U.S. policies, by using scenario analysis to assess macroeconomic impacts. Joao enjoyed listening to the ‘variety of opinions from different economists around the world, from places like Italy and America’.

Luca appreciated the insight it gave him into the current issues faced by the Bank of England and gained a greater understanding of the mechanisms behind inflation and interest rates, while Tudor commented on how the event reinforced his future career aspirations and was inspired by the use of various methods including scenarios in developing policy.

"I also took away valuable lessons in public speaking" commented Fatima.  "One standout was Andrew Benito, whose confidence and articulate delivery highlighted the power of intonation and open body language in capturing an audience's attention."

Our students had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and hear from a wide variety of top economists from, for example, The Economist, LSE, Bloomberg, Harvard, PGIM and BNP Paribas.

We would like to thank PGIM who sponsored the event at King's College, London, and especially Fabiola Neziri from the PGIM Team who ensured our students had such a positive experience.
