What do Lawyers Really Do?

Over half term, six of our budding future lawyers in Year 12 spent a week with two top Central London firms, Paul Hastings and PGIM Fixed Income.

"I wanted to gain a more clear understanding of what corporate law is really like and how real-life lawyers actually work in their day-to-day roles, and ask them questions like what skills are needed and what type of experience is needed in the legal profession," commented Sanvi.

Randa was struck by the inclusivity that she experienced at PGIM: "One of the best things at PGIM that interested me the most was its culture and inclusivity and seeing a firm with vast diversity and its inclusivity for everyone of different ethnicities, religions, those with disabilities etc and seeing how they operate to ensure everyone feels safe and protected while working there."

The students weren’t just observing during their week, but given real-world tasks. "Something that challenged me," said Hana, ‘"was being given a real paralegal interview document and having to identify mistakes."

Kanvi commented that "both placements felt purposeful rather than just something to observe. The document task at Paul Hastings gave the week a sense of direction and, at PGIM, going into specific areas like real estate and private credit rather than keeping things broad, made the day feel substantial. Both teams treated us like people seriously considering these careers and that made a real difference."

All our students would like to express their thanks to both teams at Paul Hastings and PGIM
for being so welcoming and supportive. They learnt so much from the talks, the activities, and the insights shared. It was an inspiring week, and we are grateful for the time taken to help our Year 12 students understand the world of law and finance.
