Congratulations to Year 8 Student Gurpriya on London Youth Games Gold Medal Success
We are delighted to congratulate Year 8 student Gurpriya, who proudly represented the Borough of Brent at the London Youth Games Kayaking Sprint Event, held at Fairlop Waters, Barkingside, on Sunday 7 June 2026.
The event brought together more than 200 young athletes from boroughs across London to compete in kayak sprint races on a flat-water course. After winning her initial heat, Gurpriya progressed to the final of the 50-metre event. Following a collision involving two other competitors during the race – one of whom was a fellow member of her kayaking club – the final had to be restarted.
Showing remarkable composure and determination, Gurpriya rose to the challenge and went on to win the re-run final, securing a gold medal for Brent.
Commenting on her achievement, Ms Barry, Director of Student Development for Year 8, said:
