Amendments to the School Uniform

As we are experiencing another period of extremely hot weather, we have again decided to make an amendment to our school uniform.  This will help students to be more comfortable as temperatures increase.  Please note that our school day will remain as normal.

Upper School

Students are permitted to wear a PE kit or the relaxed uniform that they are currently wearing to school.  This will remain in place for the remainder of the school year until Thursday 16th July, as we are due to continue experiencing high temperatures until then. Students who choose to wear a PE kit must ensure it is worn in line with school expectations:

  • Preston Manor School branded T-shirt
  • Appropriate shorts or tracksuit bottoms (must be black or blue) – no cycling shorts
  • No exceptions will be made to the above and students failing to meet these requirements will be followed up in line with our behaviour policy.

Only students with PE that day may borrow an item of PE kit from the uniform cupboard, if needed. If students do not have the correct PE kit, they should wear our adapted school uniform with no tie and blazer.

Please also ensure that your son/daughter has a water bottle that can be refilled.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. T Phillips
Head of Upper School

Lower School

As the weather is going to be quite warm again this week, we are going to continue to ensure that procedures are in place to keep our children comfortable.

To help children stay cool and comfortable:

  • Children may attend school in either their PE kit or normal school uniform, whichever they feel more comfortable in.
  • Children should bring a water bottle, which can be refilled throughout the day.
  • Children may bring a small handheld fan for use in the classroom.
  • Please provide a sunhat or cap for wearing at playtimes and leaving school at the end of the day.
  • Apply sunscreen before school.

School will continue to:

  • Encourage regular drinking throughout the day.
  • Ensure water bottles can be refilled as needed.
  • Keep classrooms as cool and as well ventilated as possible.
  • Provide regular opportunities for rest, shade and hydration.
  • Monitor children closely for any signs of heat-related illness.

Parents need to continue to:

  • Ensure their children bring a water bottle to school every day.
  • Ensure their children bring a cap or sun hat to school every day.
  • Ensure that they apply sunscreen to their children every morning before school.

As the weather won’t quite be hitting the extreme temperatures that we experienced at the end of June and the humidity is going to be considerably lower than it was at the end of June, we don’t envisage needing any further special arrangements than those stated above.

We will obviously continue to monitor the situation very closely throughout the week.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mr. K Atkinson
Head of Lower School
