Successful, Talented, Astonishing, Responsible Students (S.T.A.R.S.)

The S.T.A.R.S. Programme (Successful, Talented, Astonishing, Responsible, Students) at Preston Manor

The S.T.A.R.S program has run in Preston Manor for 8 years. This project is aimed at students we feel would benefit from leadership training.

The programme is run by Mr.Carboo (Preston Manor Lead Learning Mentor). The S.T.A.R.S. Mentoring Programme is a unique initiative that aims to motivate and inspire students to achieve their true potential. The real power of the programme lies in personal learning and development through exposure to new ways of thinking and behaving. The group sessions will run on a different period each week in Preston Manor for one academic year.

The sessions aim to increase the pupils’ motivation, learning and self-esteem. In addition the sessions will be creative, interactive, thought provoking, challenging, and above all enjoyable.Students are required to undertake numerous challenges and become skilled in many different areas.

Challenges include: Drama projects, script writing, interviewing skills, public speaking, taking part in assemblies, debates, presentations, chess club and leadership training.

Any parents wanting to refer their child to mentoring must contact the respective DSD. The Lead Learning Mentor and DSD’s make referrals for the STARS group mentoring. All referrals must go through the Pastoral Gateway.
