Brent Reservoir Sculpture Unveiling – A Celebration of Art and Community

Selected Year 9 students were recently invited to the unveiling of a striking new sculpture at the Brent Reservoir (Welsh Harp).

The sculpture, which was created by artist Phil Neal, warmly welcomed the group. Phil previously worked with our students last September as part of a wider community project led by the Canal & River Trust.

The project began last summer, when students were invited to take part in a conservation tour of the reservoir. They later developed observational sketches from that visit during an artist-led workshop at school. These drawings inspired elements of Phil’s final sculpture, which creatively repurposes 19th-century pulleys from the dam to reflect both the site’s heritage and natural beauty.

The unveiling featured speeches from the Deputy Assistant Mayor of Brent and representatives from the Canal & River Trust, who praised the artist’s work and the meaningful involvement of young people.

It was a proud and inspiring moment for everyone involved; a lasting piece of public art born from local history, creativity, and collaboration.
