Student Leadership

At Preston Manor School, we recognise that our students are the leaders of the future and therefore provide a range of opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills. Student's voices are valued and promoted.

We encourage all of our students to embrace the wide range of opportunities available to them – and always seek to find new ways that we can further empower our students. This enables our students to develop as individuals, as a community and grow the school as a whole.

We have developed a range of leadership opportunities for our students. For some of our leadership positions, students are elected by their peers through a democratic process. Others require children to apply for posts, often requiring a written letter of application, giving a presentation and going through an interview process.

Upper School Leadership roles

Year 7

Assembly Leaders

Year 7 students take the lead in planning and delivering assemblies for their peers. This develops confidence, teamwork, and public speaking skills, while allowing students to share important messages, raise awareness about key topics and celebrate Year 7 achievements.

Sports Ambassadors

Year 7 students who participate in and promote participation in extracurricular PE clubs. They help to organise lunchtime and after-school activities, encourage others to get involved in sport, and act as role models for positive engagement and teamwork.

Year 8

Junior Prefects

Leaders and role models, helping to maintain a positive school environment. Organise one informal social activity (e.g. board games, lunch or quiz). Offer peer mentoring or small-group support for those struggling to adjust. Lead assemblies on topics that are relatable and important to the year group. Have an active role in planning and coming up with initiatives for Drop-Down Day.

Year 8 Buddies

Meet regularly with assigned Year 7 buddies to check in and offer guidance. Help them find classrooms, use planners, and understand routines. Encourage inclusion at break and lunchtime. Help prepare Year 7s to become supportive role models themselves next year.

Year 9

KS3 Ambassadors – Be the Voice. Be the Role Model. Be the Change.

The Key Stage 3 Ambassadors are a team of motivated students who help create a positive, supportive and inclusive school community.

  • Mentor younger students
  • Support students at the lower school through reading buddies, boosters and after-school sports clubs
  • Lead by example – show excellent behaviour, attendance, and effort
  • Represent student voice – share KS3 ideas or concerns with staff
  • Support school events – open evenings, transition days, assemblies and other events
  • Encourage wellbeing – promote inclusion, kindness and positive attitudes
  • Work as a team – plan and lead projects with other Ambassadors
